La Rochelle switch for Goosen

South African-born Racing Metro fullback Greg Goosen has completed a move to La Rochelle, agreeing a two and a half year contract with the Top 14 side.

Goosen, a former Sharks player, moved to France in 2006, joining Metro. After four great years with the ambitious outfit he will now make the switch to La Rochelle and attempt to help the Atlantique Stade Rochelais outfit maintain their top flight status after they won promotion just last year.

La Rochelle currently find themselves in 11th place in the Top 14 and recorded a fantastic victory over, defending Champions, Clermont in their last domestic fixture before the international break.

Speaking about his move from Paris, Goosen said he was eager to get more game time, something which has been limited so far this season, and that he was excited to join a good and settled unit.

“For me the move is largely about game time as well, I need to be playing,” said the 26 year-old No.15.

“Obviously my first goal is to be a part of the team which helps them stay up. They are a good team which has been together for a long time and who have already shown what they can do in the Top 15.”

Adding: “Of course it will also be great for me to experience life in a different part of France, it is a beautiful part of the world!”

Leaving Racing Metro, Goosen says it was hard to bid farewell to his Paris-based club but is sure the move is for the best.

“It will be a bit hard to say goodbye but we all need new challenges in our life and this is the right one for me at this time I believe.”
